IPC/WHMA-A-620 Certified IPC Application Specialist (CIS) Training and Certification Program

IPC/WHMA-A-620, Requirements and Acceptance for Cable and Wire Harness Assemblies, is modeled after IPC-A-610; IPC’s most widely used standard with an international reputation as THE source for end product acceptance criteria for consumer and high reliability printed circuit assemblies. IPC/WHMA-A-620 is the first industry consensus standard for cable and wire harness fabrication and installation.

Module 1: Introduction/Policy and Procedures
Module 2: Foreword and Documents
Module 3: Preparation
Module 4: Soldered Terminations
Module 5: Crimp Terminations
Module 6: Insulation Displacement Connection (IDC)
Module 7: Ultrasonic Welding
Module 8: Splices
Module 9: Connectorization
Module 10: Molding/Potting
Module 11: Cable Assemblies and Wires
Module 12: Marking and Labeling
Module 13: Coaxial/Twinaxial Cable Assemblies
Module 14: Wire Bundle Securing
Module 15: Shielding
Module 16: Cable/Wire Harness Protective Coverings
Module 17: Installation
Module 18: Solderless Wrap
Note: Modules 1 and 2 are prerequisite training for any Application Specialist certification. Modules 3 through 18 are optional additional training for the required disciplines.
Candidates take an open book exam for each module
• An individual score of 70% or better on each exam is required • Candidates who pass the course modules receive an IPC certificate of proficiency indicating the areas of the IPC/WHMA-A-620 that were taught
Upon completion of the IPC/WHMA-A-620 Application Specialist course, candidates are certified for two years. At that time Application Specialists will need to attend a recertification course to maintain certification for the IPC/WHMA-A-620 course.
